Abu Dhabi, UAE — Kenyan running legend Edna Kiplagat delivered a masterful performance at the 2025 Abu Dhabi Marathon on Saturday, finishing second in a competitive women’s elite field.
In the seventh edition of the ADNOC Abu Dhabi Marathon held on December 13, 2025, Kiplagat crossed the finish line with a time of 2:25:07, securing the runner-up position behind her compatriot Catherine Reline Amanang’ole, who defended her title with a winning time of 2:21:17. Ethiopian athlete Burtukan Bekele rounded out the women’s podium in third place in 2:25:25.
At age 46, Kiplagat continues to defy expectations and demonstrate her enduring excellence on the marathon circuit. A two-time World Marathon Champion and one of Kenya’s most accomplished long-distance runners, she showcased her trademark resilience and strategic racing throughout the iconic 42 kilometre course.
The Abu Dhabi Marathon attracted over 37,000 participants across all race categories this year, including elite elites, relay teams, and community runners — making it one of the largest running events in the region. The marathon route passed several of Abu Dhabi’s most famous landmarks, such as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and Capital Gate, reaffirming the race’s status as a premier international road-racing event.
Kiplagat’s performance was part of a strong showing by Kenyan athletes overall. The country claimed the top two positions in the women’s elite race, highlighting Kenya’s continued strength in long-distance running on the global stage.
